My first peace march was at 42nd Street Elementary School in Leimert Park on Friday January 15, 2010. It was to celebrate the peace that Martin Luther King Jr. wanted us to have between coloreds and whites.

In 1990, my mother took me to see Nelson Mandela, South African activist and humanitarian, speak at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Sitting amongst a sea people from all ethnic backgrounds, I was entranced by this legendary leader. He had an uncanny ability to connect with each and every individual and create an environment that empowered everyone there to take action for his cause. I felt as if he was speaking only to me! He shared his personal and professional experiences as an active participant…

Minorities lag in melanoma awareness:
I was reading Dermatology Times and came across an article about melanoma and minorities.
It seems Whites and light Hispanics are being diagnosed with melanoma more frequently in recent years, while Hispanics and Blacks continue to have advanced skin cancer at diagnosis, ScienceDaily reports.
Researchers analyzed data from the Florida Cancer Data System, a statewide, population-based cancer-incidence registry. Of…

For those not witnessing a "White Xmas", let me tell you live from St. Louis, let's trade places. The temp. is 25 degrees and I've just tossed salt on my sidewalks and steps leading up to my home. How much snow you ask, just enough to say it's a "White Xmas". The lawn is white and so are the bushes surrounding my house. Well it's Lakers time, must go. Anyone wishing to trade places let me know.

Fix Expo leader
Damien Goodmon keeps on fighting - this week in support of Cheviot Hills and Westwood.
He says just because at-grade crossings were forced upon the communities of color from Leimert Park to University Park doesn't mean that anyone should consider this the new standard to justify putting at-grade crossings in the more affluent and whiter areas closer to the beach.…

New Conductor on the Walt Disney Hall block brings a wide range of "Soul" to the Arts.
As I moved among the large crowds into the entrance of the Hollywood Bowl there was a great surge of energy. The good kind just prior to when you know something great is about to occur. It’s akin to a prelude of experiencing a fantastic meal or witnessing history in the making.

Since Leimert Park is L.A.'s mecca for artists of all kind, it has been chosen as the location of an invite-only spoken word showcase to occur in May 2010. I just wanted to put it out there that my partner and I need to secure a venue for this much anticipated event. We really don't know where to start but we're hoping to bring a few hundred patrons to your establishment. If you are a Leimert Park business owner, or know one, please, please let me know. We'd love to do business with you.
