Introducing...

The DIGITAL ELDER Project:

CLOSING THE DIVIDE & RECONSTRUCTING SELF-IMAGE FOR SOCIOECONOMIC ADVANCEMENT

Using the role of the traditional African elder as a guide, a Digital Elder™ is a role model who utilizes modern tools of 21st Century communication, to ensure a safe and supportive space to listen, nurture, guide, acknowledge, share wisdom and affirm (Byard, 2008).

Poised to close the divide, the mission of the Digital Elder project is to train current & potential leaders of African descent (ages 14 to 100), to become media literate, technologically familiar and cognizant of social and racial barriers and opportunities, in order to support intergenerational communication and global advancement - socially, economically and academically.

"Before I became a Digital Elder I was focused on my own ignorance and now that I am a Digital Elder I realize I have an obligation to others to master this."

My Mandela Experience & The Digital Elder Project

Posted on January 17, 2010 at 8:24am 0 Comments

In 1990, my mother took me to see Nelson Mandela, South African activist and humanitarian, speak at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Sitting amongst a sea people from all ethnic backgrounds, I was entranced by this legendary leader. He had an uncanny ability to connect with each and every individual and create an environment that empowered everyone there to take action for his cause. I felt as if he was speaking only to me! He shared his personal and professional experiences as an active participant… Continue

A CRITICAL JUNCTURE FOR AFRICAN AMERICANS - A Road Map Toward Solution...

"The slavery that captures the mind and imprisons the motivation, perception, aspiration and identity in a web of anti-self images, generating a personal and collective self-destruction, is more cruel than the shackles on the wrists and ankles. The slavery that feeds the mind, invading the soul of man, destroying his loyalties to himself and establishing allegiance to forces which destroy him, is an even worse form of capture." -- Dr. Naim Akbar (1996)

"This is a critical juncture in… Continue
