I've witnessed a great many defensive responses in my nearly 8 years of living in Baldwin/Crenshaw/Leimert by going to community meetings and speaking with fellow residents. I've listened to a lot of complaints. I've been party to a ton of outrage. I'm not pointing fingers; I've been right there grumbling alongside everyone.
I know some of the community malaise has to do with the constant barrage of issues that always seem to be occurring around us. For years we've been…

When people think of moving to any neighborhood, one of the first things they do is go online to get the crime statistics for that area.
I'd say the best way to really know what's happening is to ask a police officer who's actually on the front line everyday and can really break it down for you.…

Let me introduce to you one of the treasures of the Los Angeles community and part of the family of Leimert Park: Verbs.
This youngster has made quite an underground impact with his rhymes and his eclectic music tastes. I love his honest and often humorous takes on life in LA, taking public transportation, new found feelings of commitment and the challenges of growing up today, which he lays over smooth beats and sometimes a live band.

Virgil Covington was born in Lafayette, Louisiana. His grandparents on his mothers' side were sharecroppers. They had a farm along the old railroad line between New Orleans and Houston. They had sixteen children, all except for two born to a midwife.
