So what brings you to Leimert Park Beat? Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I moved to the Leimert Park area near Crenshaw and Martin Luther King about six years ago and was overcome with the culture that now surrounds me.

I started this online community for my neighborhood as part of the master's program in online communities I am in at USC. I created Leimert Park Beat in April 2007.

It was always a dream of mine to have a newspaper. But here the community decides what's important by contributing the content. Leimert Park Beat strengthens the community by providing a virtual town square. Leimert Park Beat also empowers the community by giving it a voice in this big city.

After spending most of my life working at newspapers, I am now a media relations representative at a top research university.

I'm proud to be the chaplain, an elected position, in the Sutro Avenue Block Club. Our yearly barbecue is in August, holiday potluck is December and Yard Sale is in May.

I am also on the North Area Neighborhood Development Council, the city's neighborhood council which represents the area just east of Leimert Park.

Other neighborhood social networks I created:

SilverLakeStar.com
University Park Family.com
Echo Park Online

Do you work with a non-profit or are you associated with one?

I belong to a charitable fundraising platform of a private funding group.  Our mission is to raise funds, for personal requirement, sending kids to college, get out of debt, charitable needs, etc...

RE: "SPACE SHUTTLE PARADE(?)" How can the destruction of our beautiful and irreplaceable trees warrant a celebration??? I recently signed  petition OPPOSING this.....I wish I could post photos of the really MAGNIFICENT TREES they will cut down. I TOTALLY OPPOSE THIS RAPE OF OUR COMMUNITY'S MEAGER RESOURCES!!!! Now then, when the shuttle was taken to its lift-off location, it was positioned in a VERTICAL MANNER. That way, the wings are NOT HORIZONTAL and should NOT require the destruction of OUR TREES on its path to the museum. THEY(?) had originally proposed going down LEIMERT BL. where the stately pines form a natural green tunnel. At least SOMEONE saw how stupid that would be....WHERE THE HELL ARE OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES AT ALL LEVELS WHEN WE NEED THEM........FIGHT BACK EVERYONE!!!

Thanks for being so dedicated to the ongoing success of LPB.  You are a prince among men who makes a real difference in our community.  Keep up the good work.  We need to have a meeting in the coming weeks so we can get some of the issues we face to the surface.  More to come when we meet in the coming weeks.  Take care

An attack on our civic rituals - those are the things that we value as Americans: Deval Patrick consoles Boston, America

Posted on April 18, 2013 at 9:00pm 0 Comments

I heard the most amazing speech this morning in the most trying of times.

So many things I've been thinking about were coalesced.

Deval Patrick, speaking in the aftermath of a tragedy that shakes us to our core, becomes a messenger of unity so strong that it evens transcends religion.

"How very strange that the cowardice unleashed on us should…
