I was really moved by this article I saw about African America journalist Kevin Weston's fight for his life. A new father who works for New America Media in Oakland, Mr. Weston was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer, and requires a bone marrow transplant. His time is very limited (doctors originally gave him 2 weeks to live) and his only chance is to find a matching donor.
The article says "Marrow matches are ethnically based and depend on one’s genetic makeup. Weston is African…

If you fear economic collapse and the possibility of becoming homeless and you want to become self sufficient, then it’s time to embrace domestic change and reoccupy the land.
The United States is simply not the same country that it used to be.…

Mercado La Paloma has recently earned a reputation as a foodie destination - as it not only is home to Yucatan-flavored Chichen Itza, but it also spawned Mo-Chica. The food court atmosphere near the DMV just east of USC on Grand Avenue also has a tailor and Mexican gift shop.
And now the business incubator is mixing in art and…

We at Wisdom From The Field would like to wish a happy birthday to one of the world-renown martyrs of the Civil Rights Movement and soldiers of service to our community, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is only appropriate that we share what may be one of his most heart touching, motivational, and pride filled speeches ever given. The message in his words may seem to have fallen on deaf ears, however we are determined to unlock the inner resources at the heart of our community and finally…

Around 2:50 am this morning, two women were struck and killed by a car on Leimert Blvd. Before the collision, one woman was ranting loud in-coherently walking westbound on Leimert Blvd towards 11th avenue. She was in the street walking when an on coming car approached her; she stood in the path of the car with her arms in the air, the car stopped and drove in reverse to…

Southern California is home to hundreds of grocery stores, and KPCC journalists are always looking to connect with employees at grocery chains and local food emporiums. Do you work at a major chain like Vons, Albertsons or Ralphs? What about Fresh and Easy or 99 Ranch Market or an independent store?
KPCC journalists want to hear from you.
We read every response, and…
