THE THIRD ANNUAL SHORTS AT CAAM FILM SCREENINGS TO FEATURE AWARD WINNING DIRECTORS, ANA DUVENAY, RYAN COOGLER AND KAHLIL JOSEPH

The two-day non-competitive short films screening is designed to highlight the work of emerging black filmmakers

LOS ANGELES (August 8, 2013) In a two-day event, the California African American Museum (CAAM) will present its third annual Shorts at CAAM film screenings August 10-11, 2013, from 11a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.  Shorts at CAAM is a non-competitive short-film showcase featuring independent filmmakers, followed by a “talk back” sessions with the directors, producers and actors.

“We are excited about this year’s Shorts at CAAM series, as we have a terrific line-up of short films by some of the finest black filmmakers of this demographic,” says Elise Woodson, CAAM’s program manager and Shorts at CAAM Showcase curator.

This year’s line up includes short films by Ryan Coogler, director of the critically acclaimed “Fruitvale Station,” Kahlil Joseph, this year’s Sundance Festival Short Film Grand Jury winner for “Unitl the Quite Comes”, and Eva Duvenay, the first black woman to win Sundance’s best director award for “Middle of Nowhere 2012.”  In addition, student films and web series will be showcased.

Designed to promote the work of emerging filmmakers in the Los Angeles community, Shorts at CAAM supports fresh, young talent whose work otherwise might not have the opportunity to be seen by a diverse audience.  Films screened at CAAM are for an adult audience.

CAAM events are free and open to the public. RSVP is encouraged at (213) 744-2024 Parking is $10, in the lot adjacent to CAAM at 39th and Figueroa Streets.  For more information visit www.caamuseum.org or call (213) 744-2024. Follow
