Road detours to accommodate excavation, decking of second Crenshaw/LAX underground light-rail station to begin March 15

The Crenshaw/MLK station -- the second underground station to be built for the Crenshaw/LAX light-rail project--, will begin excavation and decking operations at 9 p.m. Sunday, March 15, requiring full closure of Crenshaw Boulevard between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Stocker Street and from 43rd Street to Vernon Avenue for 12 consecutive days and nights. (Crenshaw, between Stocker Street and 43rd Street will remain open.)
Utility relocation and steel pile installation on the Crenshaw/Vernon underground station will simultaneously take place during the street closure.
If you are planning to travel in this area [to visit the West Angeles Church of God in Christ, the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza or other businesses along the corridor,] plan ahead to avoid delays.
Although Crenshaw Boulevard will be closed, traffic will be able to cross Crenshaw Boulevard east and west-bound at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Stocker Street, 43rd Street and Vernon Avenue throughout the closure.
Southbound detour:
If you are traveling south on Crenshaw Boulevard turn left at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, turn right at Western Avenue, turn right at Vernon Avenue and then turn left at Crenshaw Boulevard.
Northbound detour:

If you are traveling north on Crenshaw Boulevard turn right at Vernon Avenue, turn left at Western Avenue, turn left at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and then turn right at Crenshaw Boulevard.
Traffic control measures and signage will be implemented throughout the closure. Emergency and pedestrian access to area business will be maintained. Parking will continue to be available behind businesses within the closure area.
Buses traveling north and south on Crenshaw Boulevard will be detoured but Metro has already posted signs to that effect in English and Spanish to notify passengers of the new bus stops.
The 8.5-mile Crenshaw/LAX Line is a $2.058 billion light-rail line that will connect the Green Line and the Expo Line. It will have eight new stations to serve the Crenshaw, Inglewood and LAX communities. It is expected to open in 2019.

About Metro
Metro is a multimodal transportation agency that is really three companies in one: a major operator that transports about 1.5 million boarding passengers on an average weekday on a fleet of 2,000 clean air buses and six rail lines, a major construction agency that oversees many bus, rail, highway and other mobility related building projects, and it is the lead transportation planning and programming agency for Los Angeles County. Overseeing one of the largest public works programs in America, Metro is, literally, changing the urban landscape of the Los Angeles region. Dozens of transit, highway and other mobility projects largely funded by Measure R are under construction or in the planning stages. These include five new rail lines, the I-5 widening and other major projects.
