Dear Friends,
Today, I’m proud to have opened and started construction on my fourth park in four weeks. These new parks will bring open green spaces to the heart of the city and deliver new opportunities for children and adults to frolic and play.
The opening of Grand Park, culminates years of effort between the City, County, and private investors to bring a 12-acre park that unites the diverse communities and cultures of downtown. This expansive green space, with its history as well as its beautiful, creative design and landscaping, is now a park that welcomes all visitors with open arms. It also offers a wonderful fountain to cool visitors on hot summer days.
The new Spring Street Park was another community driven effort that brought neighbors, families, and private landowners together to create a true neighborhood park in downtown. With the community's input we were able to transform an old parking lot into a park that the children pictured below will be able to play in when it opens next year.
I was also proud to open City Hall Park and begin construction on revitalizing Pueblo Del Rio Playground this month. City Hall Park will give citizens an area to congregate and make their voices heard before the steps of City Hall. While Pueblo Del Rio will see its playgrounds refurbished, a basketball court restored, and new facilities for community groups to meet.
These four parks are the culmination of years of hard work by community members, private landowners, and the City to create green spaces.
Over the last decade I have invested over $70 million to build and restore Los Angeles' urban parks, created new public gardens, and opened two urban wetlands, the first of their kind nationally. I am proud of these efforts and will continue to bring people together to rebuild and revitalize Los Angeles one park, one project, and one block at a time.
Sincerely,
Jan Perry
