Are You Ready?

Alone with five children, Mom worked more than full-time as a nurse and pulled double- and triple-shifts whenever possible. Her schedule left my sister Sharron in charge of a motley crew of siblings. Expert multi-taskers, they both are able to walk, talk, think, problem-solve and execute faster than the speed of light.

"Are you ready?" The question was rhetorical - if we weren't… Continue

Broom Man dies at 91 we'll miss him

The Broom Man left this life this week. Many of us will have to figure out another way to buy a broom. The blind Rev. Livingston Wills walked Omaha streets peddling brooms for over 55 years. Our offices in Omaha's inner city Benson neighborhood was a place he would 'set a spell', use the phone, etc. before gathering his brooms and moving on down the steet. The Fast Food Ban Is Music to My Ears

I just can't think of a reason another fast food place would make Leimert Park or South Los Angeles a better place. I've read blog post after rant and whine - in no particular order - that says creating zoning regulations to control land use in a city is unAmerican and part of some nanny state that white liberals are try push on the poor… Continue

OFF MY BACK!

Critics are everywhere! In the bed next to us, at the family table, in the workplace and inside our own heads. They sit in judgment and watch what others do so they can find fault. They slice and dice away at your positive energy, and are happiest when you are inert, doing nothing and complaining. The power they hold over us seems real, but it's not. Scratch them and watch pus ooze from their pores like lava from a volcano. They are putrid and… Continue
