Critics are everywhere! In the bed next to us, at the family table, in the workplace and inside our own heads. They sit in judgment and watch what others do so they can find fault. They slice and dice away at your positive energy, and are happiest when you are inert, doing nothing and complaining. The power they hold over us seems real, but it's not. Scratch them and watch pus ooze from their pores like lava from a volcano. They are putrid and contagious.

Critics leave lives in ruin. They mow over children's dreams and set patterns in motion that severely damage perfectly wonderful humans. As we face the work that lies before us each day, the rebuilding of national hope and pride, the redevelopment of our communities around the globe, the manifestation of a reality that sustains the human spirit and bliss, there are no resources available for dealing with critics.

The next time your inner or outer critic launches an attack, give them the hand and shout, "OFF MY BACK!" Then turn your attention toward more productive tasks. Today I say OFF MY BACK to procrastination that says my contribution is useless and won't be missed; OFF MY BACK to the inner voice that says it cannot be done; OFF MY BACK to the people who ask why I do it the way I do it, when they don't do it at all. OFF MY BACK, dammit! I'm busy living on purpose and your noise is distracting!

Sincerely,

Thanks for your comment, Hosea. I knew I wasn't alone in this struggle. :)

I heard that, as a poet I applaud the preciseness of "off my back".

Thanks so much for your input. Duly noted --- do not blog until AFTER 1st cup of coffee. :) Be well and I hope you find the off switch for your inner critic. I know where mine is but in the throes of the mental madness, I forget to use it.

Hopefully, things will be better once you've had that cup of coffee. Good message - OFF MY BACK to procrastination that says my contribution is useless and won't be missed - for me it's my inner critic and that causes so much inaction.
