So what brings you to Leimert Park Beat? Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hello! My name is Anne. I'm currently a Marketing Director for Southern California Aquatics, a club swim team for adults. Swimming is a passion of mine; I started out as a kid in summer league and then went on to compete for five years in high school. I still try to swim often since it's such great exercise! I'm also an aspiring reporter and recently graduated from the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at USC. I love the Leimert Park community as it has inspired many of my journalism pieces. I would like to get more publicity for the team and I hope more people will try swimming!

Many remember scoring that goal or winning a race fondly from childhood. But growing up doesn’t have to mean the end of team sports! Two swimmers, Rossella Pescatori and Chris Wall, have kept competing as adults, which helps them both remember how they fell in love with the water in the first place.

Pescatori, 45, was heartbreakingly close to competing in the…

Cold, Dark, Rainy...Even Olympians Struggle to Exercise

Posted on February 25, 2016 at 6:00pm 0 Comments

Two swimmers, Bob Beresh and David Walters, are opposites when it comes to skill-level. Beresh, a beginner, started attending organized, coached workouts about two months ago. Walters, a national standout, competed on the U.S. 4x200 freestyle relay with Michael Phelps in the 2008 Olympics.

But they both share a struggle that anyone trying to exercise can…

Posted on June 24, 2015 at 2:30pm 0 Comments

Jason May and Melanie Webber, two local triathletes, have excelled in competition and both started out in the pool. One has reached the elite level and the other is a novice swimmer, but they both enjoy the sport and the time they spend swimming laps.

Triathlon season is approaching! And they’re gearing up again.

Melanie Webber has competed in nine triathlons, but…
