Growing up, Saturday mornings, meant Soul TrainFat Albert, and Bruce Lee (in that order). During those hours, my parents never seemed to fight. Saturdays were reserved for cleaning, watching my parents do the hustle, the bump, and guessing the Soul Train Scramble Board.

Not even the threat of pressing combs or getting my hair braided could ruin the mood on Saturdays, once the ride on Soul Train started. It was a day different from others. My dad would open up his mirrored “trip room”, which contained all the latest hi-fi stereo and video equipment the 1970’s had to offer.

Once he cranked it up, you could hear the music all the way to the end of the block. My parents also opened the doors of our normally secretive home, to their friends. Who’d arrive bringing laughter and lots of trash talk. Nothing could go wrong as Don Cornelius introduced each new song, we learned the latest dances, as mama swooned over Marvin Gaye or rocked to Tina Marie.

Yep, Saturdays were sacred. All other problems were on the back burner. Peace and laughter reigned as Don Cornelius’ smooth voice got the weekly party going. Everyone we knew watched the show and had a favorite part. For me nothing compared to the Soul Train line. My favorite memory is the Kentucky fried chicken and Springfield sodas served for lunch during EVERY taping of Soul Train at the KTTV studios on Sunset! (at least that's what we ate '74-'76. LOL) Thanks for the Memories Don Cornelius!!

Soul Train was the reason my folks broke down and got our first Color TV set. Saturday just wasn't complete  without hearing the TM its " Souuuuuuuullllllll Trainnnnnnn! Mr Cornelius will be missed. Truly a legend and an Icon.

Can we shut down Crenshaw from slauson to Adams and get a major flshmob ST line goin people !
