As we move into 2010 we are faced with new challenges and opportunities for positive changes within our community. In order for us to move ahead in a organized and focused manner we must have goals and a strategy to achieve our goals. We must Engage, Educate & Empower and it must be more than just a motto and words. We must accept and move forward with action plans to make positive changes happen in our community. Too many times we sit back and wait for the other person to take the lead for things we should all be doing to improve the quality of life in South Los Angeles. Let's take a moment and define
Engage -to bind oneself by a promise or pledge. What does that mean for us? We must all step forward and make yourself accountable for projects within our community that will improve where we live. Stop complaining about what we don't have in our community and work towards making positive things happen in our community.
Educate - to develop the knowledge, skill, or character of. We must all take the time to educate ourselves on how we can and must demand the services we pay for with our city, state & federal taxes. When you see something that needs attention in our community call 311 and report it. Follow up on your report, remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease. You be that squeaky wheel for positive actions within our community.
Empower - to give power or authority to; enable. - As tax paying US citizens we all have the power to effect change. Realize that one person can make a difference. Give yourself that power by getting involved in your community now. Come out to community meetings, participate and help make positive changes within South Los Angeles. In summary.
I urge you to become a active community citizen who takes pride in our community. Don't sit back and wait for the other person to carry our issues! Stand up! and make your voice be heard! Engage ! Educate ! & Empower
