The Playhouse Theatre Players (PTP) presents for one night only…as a part of our Evening With Series, ‘A Salute To Ella Fitzgerald,’ Dubbed "The First Lady of Song." She was the most popular female jazz singer in the United States for more than half a century and in her life time; she won 13 Grammy awards and sold over 40 million albums.

The featured singer of the evening is the multi-talented Freda Payne known for her singing career, yet she has also performed in musicals and acted in movies over the years, and briefly was the host of her own TV talk show.

This salute to Ella Fitzgerald will intimately explore her life through clips, interviews and music with pianist Karen Hernandez who is one of the few women pianists to play soulful music in the black communities.

Joining Freda and Karen will be Chester Whitmore, Windy Barnes and Karen L. Evans.

Tickets are $25 with a protion of the proceeds going to the Obama Campaign.
