After years of driving up and down Jefferson Boulevard between La Cienega and La Brea, I knew that the junky Expo Line took up one side and warehouses the other. Not much to see.

But then a friend, a Westsider no doubt, told me she went for coffee near the corner of Jefferson and La Cienega. I was incredulous. There's nothing in that area.

Boy was I wrong.
Normandie Bakery & Bistro is a lovely little bakery with a French cafe patio on Cochran.

It has marvelous French toast, amazing omelets and the coffee isn't bad either.

The thick slices of dark brown brioche French toast were infused with cinnamon. The huge fluffy omelet had fresh basil, thick buffalo mozzarella and tomato. It came with browned potato wedges that anywhere else would have been top billing. It came with a
baguette that was fantastic.

Every thing's around $6.

We also got some cookies to go for our block club meeting. I like my cookies soft. And these were the old fashioned, crunchy style. But they were all gone in a few minutes so somebody liked them.

They also have a lunch menu we'll try this weekend filled with sandwiches and quiches and soups.
