A hummingbird visited me for Christmas.
We have a feeder just outside the kitchen window. I sat my iPhone on the window frame and hit record. Within about a minute, as you can see in the video, what I believe is an Allen's hummingbird came and got some homemade nectar.
Earlier this year, we had two hummingbird nests and four babies in my Leimert Park Los Angeles backyard.
Luring the hummingbirds takes no great cunning.
We didn't know how willing they were to come into our yard until we got some hummingbird feeders as a gift (Thanks Chris and Effie). We put them up and make a mixture of one cup of sugar to four cups of boiling water. After it cools you put it in the feeder and the magic happens.
There are scores of them that visit on a single day. And now they make their home in our bushes.
