First, I'd like to say," I LOVE LEIMERT PARK AND HAVE SINCE I MOVED HERE FROM NEWARK, NJ IN 1980. I REMEMBER WHEN IT WAS REALLY " BLACK OWNED." I DIDN'T REALIZE IT AT THE TIME, BUT IT WAS SOMETHING I FELT GOOD ABOUT,( AT THAT TIME I DIDN'T KNOW WHY ) NO.W THAT SO MANY OF OUR BUSINESS'S ARE MISSING, I NOW UNDERSTAND. THEY SAY WE DON'T PATRONIZE EACH OTHER, BUT WHEN WE DO, THEY INVADE OUR COMMUNITIES. WHY???????????????

Something still feels good about Leimert Park. That's why we live and play here.
We're not the only place facing tough times during this recession. We as residents and businesses have to try to keep supporting each other, thinking local first AND sharing the great assets of our community with people who don't live here but might want to shop here. We have something people want - community, culture and an identity.
Today many, many of the businesses in Leimert Park are still owned by African Americans. All you have to do is walk down Degan and say hello to James and Esowon, the sisters at Zambezi, Sika at Sika and Barbara Morrison. The Crenshaw Mall is even owned and operated by African Americans (by way of Chicago).
