Illegal street racing and Sideshows (donuts, hopping) are occurring throughout the Los Angeles area. The problem with calling the LAPD about the issue when it occurs is that the the activities only get moved to another area (Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, SMS, etc..) to wake/endanger other residents. It's a temporary solution that does not use the resources of the LAPD, the City Attorney's Office or the Courts effectively.
The National and International Brotherhood of Street Racers (remember Big Willie Robinson and the Brotherhood Raceway?) is working towards using vacant land on Terminal Island to create a race track that the local motorsports community can use for racing and other motorsports related activities (Project Street Legal - Terminal Island Raceway on Facebook). When the track was open in the past (it's opened and closed 11 times since 1965, the last time for a facility which is no longer there), not only did street racing in the entire Los Angeles area decrease, but so did gang violence. Unity through wheels and motors is the basis for the Brotherhood. There is an online petition asking Mayor Garcetti, and others, to address the issues associated with illegal street racing. Councilman Joe Buscaino (CD 15) has agreed to help with the issues. You may want to take a look at the petition, then sign and share the link if you agree that illegal street racing is a public safety issue that affects everyone.
