 "Bronzeville, Little Tokyo” sheds light on an overlooked moment in history when Japanese and Japanese-Americans were displaced and African-Americans moved into Little Tokyo. To honor this period, there will be a special two-day program featuring an interactive media installation, a 360 virtual reality presentation, and a live Jazz performance on Historic First Street North.

 The 2017 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival will be presented APRIL 27 – MAY 4TH, 2017 at select cinemas in the Los Angeles area. “Bronzeville, Little Tokyo” is a presentation of original multi-media work inspired by an overlooked moment in history known as Bronzeville. For a brief period in the 40’s when Japanese and Japanese-Americans were interned during WWII and African-Americans moved into Little Tokyo, this area was known as Bronzeville. Inspired by this period, Form follows Function and Visual Communications present a special two-day program on the weekend of April 29 and 30, 2017.

 This 3-minute VR piece evokes the spirit of late night jam sessions at breakfast clubs, and fabled stories about jazz great Charlie Parker, from his memorable stay at the Civic Hotel (1st and San Pedro) to a brief residency at the Finale Club (230 1/2 East First Street). Be the first to experience this 1940s dreamscape this weekend! A collaboration of Kaleidoscope Studio and Form follows Function.

 Using projection mapping and audio reactive technology in this historic building, "Memory Bank" is a 2-day installation and open mic that encourages you to share memories and reflections of Bronzeville and Little Tokyo. Stories will be recorded and audiences of all ages are invited to be part of this documentation. See featured speakers at 5pm on both days. A collaboration of yaknowlike studios and Form follows Function.

 The spirit of Bronzeville comes to life with live jazz by The Bronzeville Union (Dexter Story, Josef Leimberg, Josh Johnson, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Trevor Ware), excerpts of the play "Bronzeville" by Robey Theatre Company featuring CeCelia Antoinette* and Clarence "Chazz" Ross, and viewing stations for the VR animation "Bronze, Brass, Jazz".
