United States

Profile Information:

So what brings you to Leimert Park Beat? Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I moved to the Leimert Park area near Crenshaw and Martin Luther King in 2007 and was overcome with the culture that now surrounds me.

I started this online community for my neighborhood as part of the master's program in online communities I am in at USC. I created Leimert Park Beat in April 2007.

It was always a dream of mine to have a newspaper. But here the community decides what's important by contributing the content. Leimert Park Beat strengthens the community by providing a virtual town square. Leimert Park Beat also empowers the community by giving it a voice in this big city.

After spending most of my life working at newspapers, I am now a media relations representative at a top research university.

I'm proud to be the chaplain, an elected position, in the Sutro Avenue Block Club. Our yearly barbecue is in August, holiday potluck is December and Yard Sale is in May.

I am also on the North Area Neighborhood Development Council, the city's neighborhood council which represents the area just east of Leimert Park.

Other neighborhood social networks I created:

SilverLakeStar.com
University Park Family.com
Echo Park Online

I wrote the Leimert Family when I moved here 8 years ago and asked them if they had any original brochures on the neighborhood. Much to my surprise they sent me the one I posted and another one I will post later. Recently on Ebay I bought the original track map of the Leimert development (this shows all the boundaries and some of the original street names like " Santa Barbara Blvd" - very cool.

Hello Enhager, in response to your inquiry about Rotary, Rotary is one if not the biggest service organization in the world, as Rotarians we provide help in the areas of water, health and hunger, and literacy not only in our communites but throughout the world. Our club Crenshaw/Watts Rotary believe that it is vital that we give that help freely, with true caring for others. Because often, simply caring is what helps others most of all.

Walter Leimert donated one acre of his development to the city of los Angeles this is known as Leimert Plaza. The development was built in 1928 the leimert theater was built in 1931.The land was part of the Rancho cienega o pao de la tijera land grant.I hope this is useful.

    Hi Eddie,

I am glad you had a chance to stop by CAAM last night, however I was not there.  I love Leimert Park Beat, it is a great platform for community events and I will continue to share them with your viewers.  I will upload a photo this weekend, and the next time you visit CAAM let me know so I can formally introduce myself.  Thanks again, love the site and the work you do!!!

RE: "SPACE SHUTTLE PARADE(?)" How can the destruction of our beautiful and irreplaceable trees warrant a celebration??? I recently signed  petition OPPOSING this.....I wish I could post photos of the really MAGNIFICENT TREES they will cut down. I TOTALLY OPPOSE THIS RAPE OF OUR COMMUNITY'S MEAGER RESOURCES!!!! Now then, when the shuttle was taken to its lift-off location, it was positioned in a VERTICAL MANNER. That way, the wings are NOT HORIZONTAL and should NOT require the destruction of OUR TREES on its path to the museum. THEY(?) had originally proposed going down LEIMERT BL. where the stately pines form a natural green tunnel. At least SOMEONE saw how stupid that would be....WHERE THE HELL ARE OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES AT ALL LEVELS WHEN WE NEED THEM........FIGHT BACK EVERYONE!!!
