Profile Information:

So what brings you to Leimert Park Beat? Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I moved to the Leimert Park area near Crenshaw and Martin Luther King in 2007 and was overcome with the culture that now surrounds me.

I started this online community for my neighborhood as part of the master's program in online communities I am in at USC. I created Leimert Park Beat in April 2007.

It was always a dream of mine to have a newspaper. But here the community decides what's important by contributing the content. Leimert Park Beat strengthens the community by providing a virtual town square. Leimert Park Beat also empowers the community by giving it a voice in this big city.

After spending most of my life working at newspapers, I am now a media relations representative at a top research university.

I'm proud to be the chaplain, an elected position, in the Sutro Avenue Block Club. Our yearly barbecue is in August, holiday potluck is December and Yard Sale is in May.

I am also on the North Area Neighborhood Development Council, the city's neighborhood council which represents the area just east of Leimert Park.

Other neighborhood social networks I created:

SilverLakeStar.com
University Park Family.com
Echo Park Online

This is an article I did on the LABeez about the perspective of Mr. Elmer Moore. He turned 90 on the day Obama gave his economic package. He was ten years old during the crash of 1929. He is a long time Leimert Park resident.

sounds good to my ears, save the comment was meant for other ears than mine.

Greetings! I was wondering if you know anything about a club spot called "JuJu", a soul child experiment. It used to go on in Leimert Park, next door to where Project Blowed is? They used to move around alot to different venues and I've lost touch with them...any info is greatly appreciated! Peace!

Enhager, No thank you for providing this local talking drum to have the discussions. Yes, we must always fight apathy...it's one of the greatest enemies of our community. I do my little part to start and keep discussions going... because of the love I have for my community. We must always dialog with each other towards helping to better the quality of life for all of us.

How have you been? Hoping all is well. My interview with Susase Greene was wonderful!
  • Lilly Cabrera

that's a great idea. Thanks a lot. I agree with you. The thing is that I didn't become concerned with health issues until I became informed on its effects. I think that education and raising awareness are major factors.

Hello. Glad to become active on this site. Do you have a contact for the Central Avenue Jazz Festival? I would love for my artist Russel Blake to perform at the festival. He has been in the industry for 3 decades and is the former bassist for Sonny Rollins and an extensive resume.
  • Monica

Thanks so much. I will call today.

Thank you Enhager for your recent shout out for me on Facebook ... I really appreciated that greatly. I am still on my project on Facebook posting videos, articles, bio's, relating to Black History Month. I started this as a light project.. but it has grown intense for me over the last two weeks... I will continue it until the last day of February 2009.

How have you been?! Just thinking of you. Thank you for approving my post. We hope our efforts with calendar for Haiti are successful!
  • enhager

Of course - I'm trying to support you and your good cause. So I'm glad you responded because I'm having an issue with the site and trying to track it down. Your post was approved, and it's on the site somewhere, but it's not showing upon the front page. so I can't feature it.

Did you post it somehow from a different page or from your own profile so it's not a "community" post?
  • ColoredPeople.net

Hi, i posted like all other blogs... will check the main page, but yesterday I alse experienced trouble logging in.
  • Felton Newell

It was great to meet you as well. I will definitely keep everyone posted about things. I just posted information about a health care forum the campaign is hosting tomorrow night at Lucy Florence. I hope you can make it.

Thanks for that scene. What fun. This site is a great idea, and even if I am not exactly a neighbor on your block (you might think of Oregon as a neighbor) I am happy to be connected. I think in Minnesota all the kids are above average but the agony and the ecstacy of LA is that everyone there is talented and brilliant. I sent a post into the ether about my brother who has spent his life in The Biz down there so I know it pretty well. I don't know where that post went though. It was my first one, I sent it via your "email to site" thingy, but perhaps it disappeared. Isn't it great doing what you love and getting either paid or not paid for it? Merci for the welcome Enhager!

Thanks! We'll be posting up pictures today!

Hey Eddie, I'll be needing some input from you because a friend and I have created a writing, reading and poetry club on Ning called Pen. Pages. Poetry. I don't know Ning yet and since you seem to be the uber Ninger, I want to join heads to get my site well supported like yours. I would love for you to join as well because you're friggin' awesome man!

About my pic of the old farm house.
This picture was taken along the 178 from the 14 to Lake Isabella.
It goes over Walker Pass and into the Kern Valley.
The more I travel this way the more wonderous it becomes and I am sure you will too.

Eddie, thanks much for the friend request. I am an old pal of Walter Melton's, we both grew up in the area. I lived in Lemiert Park staring in 1959 and now am coming full circle, as I am moving "home" very soon. I'm very interested in what is going on in this community since I have serious roots. Also very interested to know what the current state of Marlton Square is. Thanks again for reaching out, I'm sure at some point we wil talk live. Barry
  • Rebecca Schoenkopf

Why Eddie, you dear man! You can help by pointing out some great stories! I know you must know them all. (And your piece last week on Marlton/SB Plaza was amazing.)
