In 2005, bandleader Jesse Sharps led a summit & recording session bringing together young players from the LA improvised music scene w/ local legends Azar Lawrence, Dwight Trible, Kamau Daaood, Michael Sessions, Ndugu Chancler, Phil Ranelin, Roberto Miranda, & Taumbu Ector. Members of Horace Tapscott's Pan Afrikan People's Arkestra participated along w/ Kamasi Washington, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Brandon Coleman, Randal Fisher, Nick Rosen, & Joey Dosik who were some of the up & coming young players from the local scene at the time. The Gathering's objective is to document local L.A. area talent & composers w/ a focus on giving young players a venue to share their compositions as well as feature exceptional works from the archives of The Pan Afrikan People's Arkestra, African American composers, & others that have gone under the radar over the years. The band continues to evolve & attract new players, stretching the boundaries of improvised music & performance.

"What a blessing it has been to share this film with the community & musicians that made this film, & history this film represents, possible. Such a rich heritage represented by The World Stage, Leimert Park, & the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra which was started almost 60 years ago by Horace Tapscott. Jesse Sharps is preserving the legacy and carrying on the community arts tradition through The Gathering. Don't miss you last chance to see it on the big screen & understand why this story matters so much. Link the the film's festival web page: https://www.paff.org/films/…" - Tom Paige, Director
