Does anyone know what's happening with the new landscaping and store-front improvements on the corner of MLK and Marlton (across the street from Rave Cinemas)? The new sidewalks and plantings look really nice, but the storefronts are still boarded up.

Thanks!

Thanks Yvonne! I hope those buildings get some great tenants.

Hi, All -- apologies for coming to the conversation a few weeks late.  The best place to find answers to your questions regarding Marlton Square is to attend the Neighborhood Council's Public Land Use and Beautification Committee Meetings every last Monday of the month.  Monday night's agenda will focus on the Kaiser project.  Agenda:  www.ecwandc.org

  1. The Bakewell Company (LA Sentinel owners & organizers of The Taste of Soul) purchased the buildings that are still standing at Marlton Square (including Jerry's Flying Fox).  The Company is tidying up the property, possibly making it lease-worthy until new development can happen.
  2. Marlton Square is in CD 10, Herb Wesson's area.  The Council Office manages keeping up the property though City services.  It doesn't take long to get overgrown, so be patient while the Council Office works for the next round of clean-up.  Please join in if a community clean-up scheduled.
  3. Kaiser owns the property on the corner of Marlton/Santa Rosalia and is finalizing its building plans (see above meeting suggestion).
  4. The land not owned by Kaiser or Bakewell is partially owned by the State of California, pending transfer to the City of Los Angeles once all the lawsuits tied to it are cleared.  Once that occurs, the City can reach out to developers.  The Neighborhood Council will help lead planning sessions, so stay on the lookout for when that happens.  More than likely, once the legal issues are done, movement on the property will happen very quickly.

You are always welcome to attend Neighborhood Council meetings that occur the 1st Saturday of every month or the 3rd Monday in addition to the PLUB meetings, where you can ask questions and get the facts.  And then, please spread the word.  All meeting times and Agendas are available on the Neighborhood Council website:  www.ecwandc.org
