According to Bryan Pennington, Metro Executive of Director Engineering and Construction, the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project has reached 33 percent completion!
The $2.058 billion Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project continues to move forward in July along the 8.5-mile alignment. The most significant work that’s being done is the cut and cover excavation of a trench along Crenshaw Boulevard between 59th and 67th streets. This will be the underground segment where the southbound train will turn west on 67th Street toward the former Harbor Subdivision right-of-way and continue all the way to the Green Line tracks.
Other highlights this month include the ongoing installation of tier-two struts on the Crenshaw/Expo underground station. Excavation is now approximately 55 feet below street level and is expected to reach 80 feet in depth for construction of the base of the station.
Framing to support the upcoming concrete pouring for the Aviation/Century aerial station structure is also underway on the southern segment.
Nothing is better than seeing the construction progress on this Measure R-funded light rail project that will serve the communities of Crenshaw, Inglewood and LAX. The line is expected to open in 2019.
