In the process of doing so! I am enrolled in radio news reporting and urban affairs reporting this semester, and my beat is Leimert Park/Crenshaw. There will definitely be stories to come that will also be posted on Annenberg's Intersections website too (intersectionssouthla.org) and wattway.org
Crenshaw/Watts Rotary District Rotary Cares Day is patterned after the "Rotarians at Work Day" which is a world-wide community service day each year. Each year, Clubs around the world identify a hands-on project that all members can participate in to help their local community.

Walter Leimert donated one acre of his development to the city of los Angeles this is known as Leimert Plaza. The development was built in 1928 the leimert theater was built in 1931.The land was part of the Rancho cienega o pao de la tijera land grant.I hope this is useful.
Hello Enhager, in response to your inquiry about Rotary, Rotary is one if not the biggest service organization in the world, as Rotarians we provide help in the areas of water, health and hunger, and literacy not only in our communites but throughout the world. Our club Crenshaw/Watts Rotary believe that it is vital that we give that help freely, with true caring for others. Because often, simply caring is what helps others most of all.

I wrote the Leimert Family when I moved here 8 years ago and asked them if they had any original brochures on the neighborhood. Much to my surprise they sent me the one I posted and another one I will post later. Recently on Ebay I bought the original track map of the Leimert development (this shows all the boundaries and some of the original street names like " Santa Barbara Blvd" - very cool.
Why Eddie, you dear man! You can help by pointing out some great stories! I know you must know them all. (And your piece last week on Marlton/SB Plaza was amazing.)
Eddie, thanks much for the friend request. I am an old pal of Walter Melton's, we both grew up in the area. I lived in Lemiert Park staring in 1959 and now am coming full circle, as I am moving "home" very soon. I'm very interested in what is going on in this community since I have serious roots. Also very interested to know what the current state of Marlton Square is. Thanks again for reaching out, I'm sure at some point we wil talk live. Barry
I don't at the moment have but one photo by Ray Beasley in my living room, but you can view his work at Gallery Plus and I believe it's on Degnan the owners name is Laura.
