"They will be performing an hour & a half of some of the baddest, original compositions by band director, composer, pianist, theorist, educator, Billy McCoy (a mentee of the great, Kenny Burrell and pianist for great artists: Pharaoh Sanders, Norman Conners, and Phyllis Hyman, etc.). They will also do one of Burrell's tunes and a couple of tunes penned by the group's very talented bassist, Marion E. Newton and will feature a tune from male vocalist, Perry, (who has a powerful, rich, and moving bass sound and amazing technique). The Big Band will be co-conducted by David Jacques, a brilliant director of his own big band. Get ready for an afternoon of some of the baddest music you will hear from a big band, in the vein and inspiration of Thelonius Monk, Wayne Shorter, Stevie Wonder, etc. Below are photos of a recent big band rehearsal.
