The California African American Museum (CAAM) invites the community to attend CAAM’s fourth annual Shorts at CAAM, in a one-day only event, Saturday, August 16, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
“CAAM is excited to present to the community, the next generation of talented filmmakers,” says Woody Schofield CAAM’s deputy director of operations and special programs. “Each year we present this showcase, which affords emerging artists and filmmakers the opportunity to connect with new audiences.”
Shorts at CAAM is designed to promote the work of emergent screenwriters, directors, actors and producers in Los Angeles. One of CAAM’s enduring goals is to provide a platform from which new voices and new ideas can be expressed. Shorts at CAAM will feature shorts by breakout directors such as Issa Rae and Evita M. Castine,
This event is free and open to the public. CAAM is located at 600 State Drive, Exposition Park. Parking is $10 and located at 39th and Figueroa Streets. In a genre-defying documentary, full of organic artistry, painter and graphic designer Ian S. Young collaborates with music producer and cinematographer, Zarian Hadley. Set to original music, it is an interpretation of strength through penmanship as message and melody are synthesized.
A Profile in Courage: Linda L Smith (Documentary)

This documentary shares the story of Linda L Smith’s journey to starting and owning her own nursing school. Today, she remains the only African-American to have a fully accredited vocational career college in California.
A Family Like Mine (Documentary)

This documentary follows the laughs, pains, struggles and triumphs of kids and couples who belong to transracial and/or gay families in the US.

The Choir (Comedy) Mature Audience

This silent film shines a spotlight on the many ways urban violence affects the community. A custodian who witnesses a traumatic event attempts to take steps to rectify the situation.
