Raspoet Ojenke has been sharing his work since 1965. An original member of the critically acclaimed Watts Writers Workshop, Ojenke was a seminal figure in the Black poetry explosion of the 60s and 70s.
Coined the "John Coltrane of Black Poetry." Ojenke calls his poetry "sheets of meaningful sounds bringing waves of images.” It is his conviction that poetry is primarily an oral art form, the only legitimate means to transmit poetry. Raspoet Ojenke also notes that "Poems are written on the hearts of people.”
Raspoet Ojenke, an inspiration to many, has steadfastly continued to nurture us through his cosmic body of works.
Entry: $20.00 (no one will be turned away!)
All proceeds and offerings from the evening will go directly to Ojenke, and will be noted "from the community with love".
Come join us for an afternoon of music and poetry in honor of this great spirit”
