NeoSouljah was discovered at an International Music Conference by Stellar/Dove award winner recording artist Babbie Mason, who baptized her NeoSouljah.
She has since that time graced stages in the company of such noted HBO Def Poets as Peabody/Tony award winners Abyss and Georgia Me; stood in the pulpits across the country and perform her poetry at national and regional conferences, as well as taking home honors in various Slam competitions. As both an Educator and Spoken Word Artist, she both implemented and oversaw the Open Mic session of Spoken Word at The National Society of Black Engineers convention on the National level, and was the very first clinician approved to approach the topics of relationships and sexual/emotional responsibility in their engineering focused workshop forum - Sex And The City: Being Healed From Emotionally Transmitted Diseases.
With a house that was filled with a diversity of music such as Ella Fitzgerald, B.B. King, Kiss, Genesis, The Jackson 5, Luther Vandross, EWF, Aretha Franklin, Walter Hawkins and Fred Hammond, “Neo's" capability to sing nearly every genre of music with an amazing powerhouse vocal range from 2nd tenor to mezzo-soprano reminds us of the dying art of real singing without the aid of technology.
Combined with the ability to arrange and record all background vocals, she has been sought out and flown in to lend her voice to everything from commercials to Country & Western flavored gospel. A sound check with Jazz artist Brian O’Neal (keyboardist/KEM) inspired the poem/piano composition “He Played Me, as well as 2 collaborations on his critically acclaimed project “Daisy”: (“Let Me Do It Again” -vocals, "Because") Grammy award winning Jazz artist KEM called her work “amazing” after seeing her performance as she hosted the “Daisy” CD release party in Detroit.
Now teamed with Producers Mike “Dakhta” Loyd of MLee Productions, Ace Boogie of Nappy Groove Records, and contributing composers/producers Brian O’Neal of BCO Media and award winning Rob Hardt from The Candy Factory in Europe [Frank McCombs], Neo is finishing up her long awaited debut CD. With titles like “Green Kool-Aid” and “Slow Motion Pimpin”), one can only guess what’s on her mind….. But one will never be disappointed.
