Today is the Empowerment Congress. Wait - don't tune out yet.

Thousands of people from our area attend to learn about how Los Angeles runs - AND WHO RUNS LOS ANGELES.

What I'm trying to say is that this is a special opportunity to get to know the people who make things happen and let them know about what's working and what's not. Face-to-face meetings are easily supplemented with email or social media so staying in touch is easy.

A New Year's Resolution for 2015 - Go to more community meetings and say hello to elected officials and staffers.

Life-long public servant and County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas makes it happen - bringing in people like Cornel West, Mayor Garcetti and many others. This is the 23rd annual with the title: "50 Years Later: Chaos or Community? Educate, Engage, Empower" at the University of Southern California. Visit http://www.empowermentcongress.org/ecsummit23

Count my hands as also being on deck, Eddie and Heather!

As Publishing Editor of the "The Daily Advocate" ~ Our resources are committed to parsing the "language", expressed/implied, flowing out from the Los Angeles City Council, County Board Of Supervisors and the California State Legislature. It truly is an exciting time of transformation indeed Heather to be living in Leimert Park.

That's a great Resolution, Eddie. I'm joining you in the commitment to attend and support more community meetings, organizations and events. I'm honored to be part of the great transformation that's underway. We've got a lot of work to do on our community and we need all hands on deck!

Don't forget about the Leimert Park Village Stakeholders meetings held every Monday (except holidays) at the Vision Theatre (10am)!

Happy New Year...
