Something even bigger came out of the Space Shuttle's foray into our neighborhoods.  One positive is the media brought sympathetic cameras to Crenshaw.  Even bigger is how several South L.A. Neighborhood Councils came together, spoke as one voice for their stakeholders, and held the City and the Science Center accountable, thereby ensuring our trees weren't lost for, literally, nothing.  The replacement trees are going to be bigger than twigs and they'll be taken care of for longer than two years.  We'll get tree trimming all over our neighborhoods.  We'll get sidewalks repaired.  On top of that, our schools will have special days where they'll get first dibs on field trips and we'll have a scholarship fund.  Maybe our Crenshaw and King trees will get historic designation.  South L.A. is going to be newly forested.  Very, very cool!

That's a beautiful sentiment. We will all grow old together watching those trees get big and fat.
