A few weeks ago I had drinks with Rebecca Schoenkopf at Ackee Bamboo's sister establshment Addassa's Island. I had the carrot ginger - delish.

Rebecca is a long-time Los Angeles journalist avant garde kind of person I think. I don't really know we just met the one time. But she's kind of famous. Known as the Commie Girl for a column she wrote for the OC Weekly, where show worked more than a decade, she also was managing editor of Citybeat. (R.I.P.)

Well now she's in the USC Annenberg specialized journalism program and we are lucky to have her covering South LA for the university's cutting edge online journalism and radio programs. First thing she did was join Leimert Park Beat.

Her latest story is about one of our all time favorite joints, Earle'z Grille at Expo and Crenshaw.

She tells me things I didn't know about Duane, the man with a plan. And Rebecca reports Earle'z serves three hundred people a day.

She raves over the sandwiches, salivates over the dogs, marvels and the vegan and veggie selections.

And at the end she remembers the phoenix rising from the flames.
