Dozens and dozens of residents turned out in support of having a neighborhood grocery store at 50th and Crenshaw Blvd. and that was enough for the Los Angeles CIty Council.
Fresh and Easy, along with Trader Joe's, is a store that is often mentioned when you ask our neighbors what they would like to see nearby instead of driving to Culver City, Inglewood or even downtown.
“We are thrilled the vast majority of the LA City Council approved the design of our proposed store at 52nd and Crenshaw,” said Walter Cathey, Jr, Fresh & Easy Real Estate Director. “We look forward to bringing fresh, wholesome food at affordable prices to another neighborhood in South Los Angeles, and sincerely appreciate the incredible support we have received from Councilmember Parks and the community.”
The Hyde Park Organizational Partnership for Empowerment appealed the project on the basis that the neighborhood deserves a different design. Though it was clear that they ultimately did not want a Fresh and Easy at all.
There was strong support from the local Councilman Bernard Parks and only Councilman Richard Alarcon dissented as the vote was moved to the full Council by the Council’s Planning and Land Use Committee.
