The California African American Museum (CAAM) will host Conversations at CAAM on September 28, 2013, at 1p.m., with award winning scholar, visual artist, illustrator, and author of children’s poetry books, as well as cookbooks, Synthia SAINT JAMES.
SAINT JAMES will be interviewed by CAAM’s History Council member Marsha Hopkins for this installment of Conversations at CAAM. Author and illustrator of 17 children’s books, SAINT JAMES will share her past and new insights from her recent book, “Living my Dream: An Artistic Approach to Marketing.” SAINT JAMES is perhaps best known for designing the first Kwanzaa stamp for the U.S. Postal Service in 1997, for which she received a History Maker award. She is also known for her cover art on Terry McMillan’s novel, “Waiting to Exhale.”
SAINT JAMES received the prestigious Trumpet award from Saint Augustine’s College in 2010. She was inducted into the National Association of Business Owners Los Angeles Chapter’s Hall of Fame. Her most recent work titled “The Dream,” commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. SAINT JAMES’ art has been shown internationally, at several embassies through the US Department of States’ Art in Embassies program including embassies in Venezuela, Ghana, Abidjan, Cote D’ Ivoire, Abuja and Nigeria.
