"I’ll be performing compositions from an old sketch book I recently found and the music of Roberto Miranda. Roberto’s a professor of music at UCLA (he teaches bass, theory, etc.), a gifted composer, bass virtuoso, and spiritual mentor of mine for many years.

Roberto Miranda is a dynamic bassist who is noted for his inventive, high-energy improvisations. He is adept in both soulful passages and fleet percussive lines, and is fluent in all (J)azz idioms. He has toured, played and recorded with an impressive array of (J)azz artists, including Shelly ManneKenny BurrellHorace TapscottBobby Bradford, John Carter, David Murray, Cecil TaylorCharles Lloyd, and Bobby Hutcherson. He has recorded extensively including albums with his own group, showcasing his successful blend of African-American, Latin, and experimental (J)azz.

Roberto released his CD With Groaning Too Deep for Words in 2002.

As a young player Roberto studied with (J)azz legends Ray BrownRed Mitchell, and master classical musicians Bob Stone, Dennis Trembly and Fred Tinsely of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. While studying for his M.M. at USC, he received two grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. These grants enabled him to score two compositions for symphony strings, (J)azz bass, bassoon, and trombone, one of which was performed by the Carson Symphony Orchestra.

Drummer Fritz Wise born Texas  grew up listening to Jazz and r&b.  move to Los Angeles and went to Locke High which was well known for it's (J)azz program where such artist like Patrice Rushen, Ndugu Chancler,  Munyoungo Jackson  etc .

Fritz has played and recorded such artist like Nate Morgan, Horace Tapscott, Gary Bias,  Azar Lawrence  just to name a few.   Whether he's a rousing tour de force, stoking the fire or resorting to his palette of serene colors, drummer Fritz Wise compliments any setting. His versatile approach embraces several genres from Funk to Jazz and just about everything in between.  Fritz and I go way back to the Jazz Nite Flight a (J)azz program on KXLU in Los Angeles.

As usual, I’ll be serving gourmet teas." - B.McC.

As usual, I’ll be serving gourmet teas but this time I’m getting the teas from a specialty shop owned by Roberto’s son, A.J. The shop is called:

The Conservatory for Coffee, Tea,& Coca

When I went shopping for teas, there was a live (J)azz duo playing in the middle of the afternoon!  Talk about being hip!!  So if you have time come on down and drink some tea and listen to some extraordinary musician.
Thanks
B.McC.
