Barbara Morrison was celebrating her new center and her new home, Leimert Park, in JazzTimes recently.
"This is my new neighborhood and my new family," Morrison told Lee Mergner of JazzTimes.
The Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center can hold 100 and entertain more than 300 people outside.
“When it warms up a little more, we’ll start up our summer concert series,” Morrison said. “We have an upstairs recording studio where you can put together a promo package to send it out for work.
Morrison, who's been in LA since 1973 was born and raised in the Detroit area. She has toured and sang with Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Etta James, Jimmy Smith, Johnny Otis, Dr. John, Kenny Burrell, Terence Blanchard, Nancy Wilson, Mel Torme, Joe Williams, Tony Bennett and Keb' Mo' among other.
At the center, lessons will also be available for $60 a class.
