photo essay of the Leimerat Park rally against injustice and in support of the Jena 6.

Video and story here.
About 200 students walked out of Locke High School at noon in support of the Jena 6. They walked west on Imperial Highway. Police gave the students an escort in order to avoid any traffic problems.
In Hollywood early Thursday morning, about 100 people gathered to protest the treatment of six African American students accused of assaulting a white classmate in Jena, Louisiana. The group marched on Sunset Boulevard and it was a peaceful demonstration.
The local events coincide with a much larger march and rally in Jena, Louisiana. Local rally organizers say that young people need to
pay attention to the issue of racial injustice in America.
Here's an odd recap without a byline in the
LA Times (who apparently had not local coverage or a reporter in Jena) and here is the LA Times
Status of the 'Jena Six'
At the center of the protest in Jena on Thursday are the charges filed against six black high school students accused of beating up a white student in December. Five of the students were initially charged with attempted second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit second-degree murder; the sixth was charged as a juvenile. Mychal Bell remains in police custody. The current legal status of each and age at the time of arrest:

Convictions for aggravated second-degree battery and conspiracy are overturned because Bell was tried as an adult rather than a juvenile. Case awaits further action by district attorney.
