A two-hour show of bombs bursting in air dazzled hundreds of people on the grass just east of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
The launch pad wasn't in the coliseum, but just east, putting us very close to the action.
Many of the explosions took place right above us, allowing us to lay down and stare up at the night sky while reclining on our beach blanket. We only…

To commemorate the 15th anniversary of the 1992 riots, the AP parachuted in a couple of reporters to do their quick, routine, mandatory
story:
"Leimert Park has become a serene enclave in the 15 years since a
race riot tore apart its neighborhood in south-central Los Angeles.
Under the surface, things aren't so calm. But today's escalating neighborhood tension has nothing to…

After years of driving up and down Jefferson Boulevard between La Cienega and La Brea, I knew that the junky Expo Line took up one side and warehouses the other. Not much to see.
But then a friend, a Westsider no doubt, told me she went for coffee near the corner of Jefferson and La Cienega. I was incredulous. There's nothing in that area.
Boy was I wrong.

Time for spring cleaning.
We're buying an ad in the Wave and putting up signs around the neighborhood (don't worry, we take them all down). From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. come look at our stuff. Some of us are barbecuing, too. Ten percent of our profits will go back to the block club, which just fought and won a battle to get our street repaved and the water main fixed (More on that later) But let me know if you want to throw your own yard sale on May 19, if you live near the 4100 block… Continue

The second meeting of the year is this Saturday, April 14, at 11 a.m. The next big event to be planned is the
third annual Annual Sutro Avenue Block Club Yard sale.
Every year this gets more fun, we get rid of stuff in the garage we don't want, make a little money and spend the day with
our neighbors and our friends. Last year many of us barbecued and sold the extras. A few of our neighbors - no names here - bought a cocktail shaker from us and got their money out of it…

declared: "one of the country's last strongholds of old-style African
American culture and activism, with the happening ethnic flavor of
Washington's pre-1968 U Street…

I feel love in Leimert Park, what can I say. I moved here just over two years ago and was immediately embraced by my new neighbors. Now they are my friends. And that's why I created this site. I wanted that sense of community to grow in spite of the fact that most of us just don't have the time.
Technology can make coming together easier than ever, and if people participate, more rewarding. Notice that you can post to this column, add photos, ask questions and start discussions on the…
