KPCC asks: What are the sounds unique to Leimert Park?

Every neighborhood has a soundscape, a mélange of musical and sometimes nonmusical noises all its own. Whether it's music, birds, car horns or ice cream trucks, KPCC's Take Two morning show wants to feature those sounds (good and bad) that provide a soundtrack to your every day.

Journalist Kevin Weston looking for bone marrow donor

I was really moved by this article I saw about African America journalist Kevin Weston's fight for his life. A new father who works for New America Media in Oakland, Mr. Weston was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer, and requires a bone marrow transplant. His time is very limited (doctors originally gave him 2 weeks to live) and his only chance is to find a matching donor.

The article says "Marrow matches are ethnically based and depend on one’s genetic makeup. Weston is African…

Building Intentional Sustainable Communities

Starting our own little planned community. More importantly, we would like to shape it around the same ideals that many current ecovillages hold. So, it’s time for some definitions. An intentional community is a planned residential community designed to have a much higher degree of teamwork than other communities. The members of an intentional community typically hold a common social, political, religious, or spiritual vision and are often part of the alternative society. They typically also…

Join our meetup groups

We are creating sustainable meetups where everyone who want to live off grid in a sustainable community and want to grow ones own non gmo healthy foods has the opportunity to do so. If you want peace on earth. If you dream of a better way. If you fear economic collapse and the possibility of becoming homeless and you want to become self sufficient, then it’s time to embrace domestic change and reoccupy the land.

The United States is simply not the same country that it used to be.…

Happy Birthday to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (Video)

We at Wisdom From The Field would like to wish a happy birthday to one of the world-renown martyrs of the Civil Rights Movement and soldiers of service to our community, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is only appropriate that we share what may be one of his most heart touching, motivational, and pride filled speeches ever given.  The message in his words may seem to have fallen on deaf ears, however we are determined to unlock the inner resources at the heart of our community and finally…

Do you work in the grocery industry?

Southern California is home to hundreds of grocery stores, and KPCC journalists are always looking to connect with employees at grocery chains and local food emporiums.  Do you work at a major chain like Vons, Albertsons or Ralphs? What about Fresh and Easy or 99 Ranch Market or an independent store?

KPCC journalists want to hear from you.

We read every response, and…
