With SNAPSHOT, Sinnott shares a story that is both intensely personal and tragically common, about her literal and figurative journey to find her father, a veteran haunted by his experience in Vietnam. It is a poignant, autobiographical pilgrimage shaped by race, war, and mental illness.

The Perlman Foundation is pleased to announce the Bridging the Gap Awards (BGA), an unrestricted funding opportunity designed to identify and support smaller charitable organizations and their initiatives that exemplify the Perlman Foundation’s mission.

Charitable organizations eligible for the BGA grant must serve low-income communities in a state where GHC Housing Partners has a presence, have been in existence for more than one year; have an annual budget less than $250,000; serve groups of 15 or more families or individual; and be change-makers in the areas of education, the arts, mentorship, college preparation, health and wellness, civic engagement, family and parental development, literacy, youth leadership, neighborhood beautification or similar programs that positively impact low-income communities.

When the Perlman Foundation was founded in 2009, its focal point was to assist families living in Section 8 housing, but it has since expanded its charitable activities. “We realized that we must serve the entire community in order to truly fulfill our mission,” explains Shaun-Teka Joyner, Executive Director of the Perlman Foundation. “There are thousands of smaller, grassroots organizations that are making a real difference in these communities. They are already on the ground, doing the work, but many need help buildingtheir capacity.”

With Bridging the Gap, the Perlman Foundation will support these grassroots organizations by providing unrestricted funding, to be used for wherever is needed, whether it is to design a website, to hire additional staff, or even to secure 501(c) 3 status. “What matters to us is that they have a clear vision, passion, and impressive results, not that they can complete a complicated grant application,” Joyner says.

The Bridging the Gap Awards will range from $1,000 to $10,000, and the Perlman Foundation will determine the grant amount based on an assessment of each organization’s capacity and needs.

To apply for the Bridging the Gap award, or to learn more, please visit the Perlman Foundation’s FaceBook page at: https://www.facebook.com/ThePFoundation or contact Rhonda Kidd at rkidd@perlmanfoundation.org or (818) 808-0600 EXT. 242.

About the Perlman Foundation

The Perlman Foundation is a charitable, tax-exempt, 501 (c) 3 organization established in 2009 by Greg Perlman, CEO of GHC Housing Partners, to provide support and assistance to residents of GHC’s low-income housing developments throughout the United States. The foundation has sinceexpanded its mission to encompass the surrounding communities as well, by supporting children, families, and charitable organizations that are working to improve low-income communities. The Perlman Foundation seeks to empower individuals and organizations through philanthropic grants and programs that invest in people, projects, ideas, and dreams.
