The massive state cutbacks are in k-education, community colleges,cal/works welfare, Home Health Aides, Healthy Families Children Insurance, UC, Cal State, Dept of Corrections, State workers pay, transportation, and redevelpment agencies are all basic services that will be reduced. Looks like all the cuts came down to the groups with least power base in Sacramento. The young, poor and disabled got the brunt of these cuts. What a shame!
All of these state institutions will directly impact our stakeholders in a variety of quality of life issues i.e. education, health care, Senior Citizens, as well as prison reductions, whereby many of these prisoners will be let go early and will end up in S. Los Angeles, broke, no job, ex-felon with only a history of crime that has secured them money in the past. What does that mean for us? Increased crime within our neighborhoods. The logical consequence of the reduced state safety social net in California will have adverse social, political and economic consequences People will not starve while you eat.
Our young will be adversely effected by reduced revenues from the state from k-12 all the way to the State Colleges and Universities... resulting in less college students at all levels because they simply can't afford colledge anymore. What a waste of talent regarding our next generation of leaders within our communities...
Young families that depend on Healthy Families Insurance hundreds of thousands will lose medical coverage or get reduced benefits. This our future we're tell and showing, we will no longer take care of your health needs... too bad ... hope you stay well? ...
Every state institution on this list directly impacts the quailty of life for your stakholders and all California's who have depended on these state services for decades... now the well is dry and they tell you to get lost ... no more sevices for you! I expect that there will be a higher level of tension in S. Los Angeles as a result of these drastic cutbacks that affect so many classes of people within the state. How can we as a council react to the upcoming state service reductions whereby educating our stakeholders how to access services that are still available to them.
The State of California is downsizing right on our back. We should educate, empower, and engage our stakeholders toward knowing what is happening in state government and how it will impact our lives and our childrens lives. We must form a strategy to help us navigate through tough economic times ahead for a large portion of our stakeholders that are affected by these large state institutions. We must begin dialog to discuss this issue directly with our stakeholders as soon as possible, because the stakes are high and change is indeed coming but not the kind we wanted?
