Eso Won not dead yet - Indie bookstore hangs on in spite of tough times because of "hope"

KPCC reports business is brisk at the Eso Won Bookstore, where Barack Obama books are flying off the shelves.

Co-owner James Fugate says about 50 percent more customers are finding their way to the store than at this time last year.

"With gas being as high as it is, people are buying more books to stay at home. I mean because they’re not going to go out as much and I do think that that’s true,” Fugate said.

Eso Won, one of L.A.’s few Black owned and operated bookstores, made the news first by announcing their demise just before Christmas and then shouting down the Save Leimert alarmists for keeping customers and businesses out of Leimert Park Village.
