Los Angeles County MTA has appointed Parsons Brinckerhoff to evaluate alignments for the 17 km Crenshaw – Prairie Transit Corridor, to which $955m has been provisionally allocated for construction of a metro, light rail or bus rapid transit line, according to Railway Gazette.
The study will evaluate a high-capacity transit system within a 10.5-mile corridor from Wilshire Boulevard south to El Segundo Boulevard, near the Los Angeles Airport. The analysis will determine the type of transit improvements needed in the corridor, which includes portions of the city of Los Angeles, Inglewood, Hawthorne, EL Segundo, and other neighboring areas within Los Angeles County.
The study and EIR
will allow Metro to evaluate a range of transit alternatives for the Crenshaw-Prairie corridor and to select a locally preferred alternative that can best provide for the transit needs of the area. Other options under consideration include a transportation system management alternative, a bus rapid transit system and a light rail transit system. The study is scheduled for completion in August 2010.
