Event Description

On Sunday, Sept. 14, Voices of LA: The Krupnick Festival of the Arts presents its culminating festival at the newly renovated and historic 1929 campus of the Wilshire Boulevard Temple in Koreatown. This free, family-friendly event showcases Los Angeles’ diverse cultures through an array of performances and activities, including all five Voices of LA cross-cultural artistic collaborations, in addition to a food stage featuring cooking demonstrations with local chefs, including Micah Wexler, Michele Grant, and Terri Wahl, programmed and hosted by Evan Kleiman of KCRW’s Good Food; interactive art workshops; food trucks and carts (with kosher options); and an indoor and outdoor stage featuring performances of klezmer, mariachi, Korean, and Persian music and dance, along with representation from many other communities within Los Angeles. From a kid-friendly art workshop on Origami, the art of paper folding, to energetic music performances that will pull the audience out of their seats and onto their feet, the festival offers a range of activities and entertainment for kids of all ages and an opportunity for families to explore cultures and traditions through performance, art, food, and crafts. Tours of the newly restored and highly impressive main sanctuary will also take place throughout the day.

The Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles presents Voices of LA: The Krupnick Festival of the Arts, a citywide series of cross-cultural collaborations, bringing together award-winning artists from diverse communities across Los Angeles to create original works of art, spanning music, dance, spoken word, and visual art.

Artist collaborations include: 2014 Latin Grammy-winner La Santa Cecilia & Yuval Ron Ensemble; triple Grammy-winner Wil-Dog of Ozomatli & Jarell Perry; choreographer Danielle Agami and her Ate9 Dance Company & DJ Omid Walizadeh; Veranda: Contemplating Spaces In Between, an original visual arts exhibit featuring Jewish and Japanese American artists; and Along the Hyphen, a spoken-word and musical performance.

Voices of LA is free of charge, and open to all ages.  For a full schedule of the day’s events, please visit www.voicesoflafest.com.
