Urban Hikes with LeimertParkBeat.com
What: Kenneth Hahn Park has more than 7 miles of trails between La Brea and La Cienega and between Stocker and Rodeo. This will be a 2-hour hike with leaders to talk about the history of the 319-acre park and native versus non-native species of plants and animals. Kids will enjoy a natural scavenger hunt.
Parking: Norman O. Houston Park, northeast corner of La Brea Avenue and Stocker Street, about two miles south of Rodeo Road. We'll cross the street to the vast park and hike about an hour and then back again.
When: Sunday, Oct. 16. 10 a.m. to noon.
Please wear sturdy tennis or hiking shoes, a hat, sunscreen and bring water.
Who: Leimert Park Beat, along with guests The Children's Nature Institute and Mujeres de la Tierra, who will add their special brand of nature education to the walk.
• The Children's Nature Institute, an organization dedicated to educating families and young children through interactive experiences with nature, is excited to kick off its annual Urban Nature Week with this hike.
• Mujeres de la Tierra, an environmental equity organization, will share their plans to make the Baldwin Hills area even more natural.
