THE contested murder of Latasha Harlins by Dr. Brenda E. Stevenson
UCLA history professor and scholar, Dr. Stevenson, will speak about her latest book The Contested
Murder of Latasha Harlins, which hypothesizes that the 15 year-old’s murder in a South Central LA store
foreshadowed the tension in the Black community that erupted months later after the acquittal of the LAPD
officers involved in the beating of Rodney King months later. Books will be on hand for sale and signing. RSVP
preferred 213.744.2024.
