Event Description

This intimate documentary follows the careers of two artistic icons: Carmen de Lavallade, the dynamic dancer, teacher and choreographer raised in Los Angeles, who later moved to New York City with Alvin Ailey and began a legacy of modern dance in America. There she met her future husband, Geoffrey Holder, a Trinidad-born choreographer, set and costume designer, painter and eventual Tony Award winner for “The Wiz”. The documentary includes interviews and performance footage of friends and colleagues such as dancers Judith Jamison, Gus Solomons, Jr., Dudley Williams, and Ulysses Dove in addition to historic footage of Alvin Ailey. Viewing times are at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. RSVP is preferred at (213) 744-2024. CAAM is located at 600 State Drive, Exposition Park, Los Angeles, CA 90037.  For more information visit www.caamuseum.org or call (213) 744-7432.
