Event Description

Blowing stronger than ever, and still on the circuit;  Azar Lawrence has confirmed his longstanding reputation as one of the 21st century's greatest exponents of the John Coltrane legacy.  Born in Los Angeles in 1952, by age 21 Lawrence had worked with War, Ike & Tina Turner, and Charles Wright's Watts 103rd Street Band ('Express Yourself').

Azar stands out as an distinctive instrumentalist with his searing, passionate saxophone sound and brilliant compositional style. As one of the best to blend the elements of earth and the spirit through music.

Mahesh Balasooriya has also played and worked with many jazz greats including a world tour with living jazz including Grammy awards winner Arturo Sandoval, Grammy awards winner; R&B, Jazz singer Natalie Cole, and he also toured with Grammy award winners Bassist Stanley Clark, Cristian Mc Bride, Larry Goldings, Roy Hargrove, John Clayton, Eddie Daniels, Johnny Mandel, Randy Brecker, Eric Reed, Hubert Laws, and Patti Austin and more.

Michael Hunter is best known for his 20 years with Lenny Kravitz.  A versatile trumpeter he also toured and recorded with names like Earth, Wind & Fire Experience, Boz Scaggs.  He recorded with the late James Brown, Stanley Clarke, Stevie Wonder, Rick James, Tina Marie and more.

Roy McCurdy will probably always be best-known for his important contributions to Cannonball Adderley's Quintet (1965-1975), but he has been a tasteful and stimulating participant in many other sessions through the years. In 1960 he joined the Art Farmer Benny Golson Jazztet and remained for two years. Early on, he worked with Chuck and Gap Mangione in the Jazz Brothers (1960-1961). McCurdy also gained recognition with Sonny Rollins before joining Adderley.

Jeff Littleton has worked as a professional musician since he was a teenager. Jeff has recorded with Herbie Hancock and is currently touring with Hancock. He also worked, and recorded with Nancy Wilson, Stanley Turrentine, Dianne Reeves, Pharaoh Sander, Harold Land, Eddie Harris, Willie Bobo, Hank Crawford, Billy Higgins and Bobby Hutchison.
