Opening of Community Day School at Audubon Middle School with Ray Cortines, Senior Deputy Superintendent, LAUSD and Marguerite LaMotte, Board District 1.
There is great concern growing within the community for the recent decision by LAUSD to transfer 20+ students from a community day school previously housed at Markham Middle School to Audubon Middle School beginning this semester.
Community day schools (CDS) are small schools providing interim educational opportunities for K-12 students who have been expelled, are at high risk, or have been referred by probation, or a School Attendance Review Board. The goal of CDS is to provide a challenging academic curriculum, develop social skills, and return students back to traditional schools.
Meet and talk with LAUSD officials to get the facts about the proposed school, the student population and what is being done to ensure the success of the program and its integration into the larger community.
