Event Description

We are very pleased to announce the start of our 5th Storytelling Season with the return of our very own WOMEN'S VOICES in another fantastic show, titled "Kinfolk
are Our Village". Experience the rich heritage of the spoken word tradition with this ensemble group of storytellers who will present performances of original, personal stories they developed in their "Tell Me a Story" workshop.
The women are gathering at the home one of their own, who has just returned from out of town where she attended a large family gathering. Come and "eavesdrop" as
they welcome her back and share stories of growing up, each remembering the grandmothers, aunties, older siblings, and even more distant relatives who helped shape their lives. You will be the proverbial "fly on the wall", as Patricia Thurmond, Barbara White, Barbara Flemings, Gwen Chambers, Roylene Walker and Marion Hinton share these stories that celebrate their lives and memories, and reflect that there are many different kinds of families. As they reminisce, they reveal to themselves and to us that the old African proverb "It takes a village to raise a child" is truer than ever, and that in each of their lives, for the most part that "village" has been their own "Kinfolk."
We'd love to have you share in the festivities and enjoy an afternoon of great entertainment. You can buy tickets online http://womensvoices-kinfolk.eventbrite.com , or by visiting our website: http://www.imalosangeles.com .
You may also pay by cash, check or credit card, at the IMA office, while supplies last. Tickets for the performance are $20.00.
Ours is a small, intimate theater, and seating is limited. So please, purchase your tickets today. As is our custom at the Institute of Musical Arts, a catered reception will follow the performance.
We really hate the thought of disappointing anyone, so please call us at least TWO HOURS BEFORE the performance to verify ticket availability if you do not purchase
your ticket in advance. For additional information call: (323) 300-6578.
